Assessment tests on polymeric materials and packages
The assessment tests on polymeric materials and packages are performed to do their quality control, through the analysis of defects, dimensional control, superficial analysis and polymeric material identification. Metallographic tests Micrographic characterization of the material and verification of the existence of defects through optical microscopy. Surface analysis The observation of surfaces, high magnifications, is performed through the technique of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) has an energy dispersive microanalysis system (EDS), which allows to determinate local chemical composition and, thus, identify the type of heterogeneities observed in the surfaces analysed. Polymeric material identification Identification of the functional groups or chemical bonds for definition of the polymer type of polymeric materials and packages, using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
