GOALS

The project DATEMATS aims at creating a transnational network among Higher Education Institutions, Research Centres and Companies in order to develop and implement interdisciplinary new methods for both design and engineering students in the field of emerging materials and technologies, and to boost also knowledge and (Emerging Material) technology transfers from academia and research centres to companies and vice versa. New competencies are today required to create efficient and rapid knowledge transfers (from academia and research centres to the industries and the other way around). They must take into account not just technical issues, but also socio-cultural factors, entrepreneurial skills and market trends that are typical of the design culture.

Emergent materials and technologies (EM&Ts) are already at the leading edge in several sectors and are one of the key-elements through which industries can stimulate innovation processes and foster creativity. The new landscapes of EM&Ts require new interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary higher educational approaches in the field of design to provide unique competencies and skills to design students who will be asked to be able to exploit the innovative potentials of specific EM&Ts and simultaneously to adopt a more entrepreneurial attitude.

 

 

EXPECTED RESULTS

DATEMATs wants to:

  • transfer and implement a unique design teaching method for students with a mixed background (design & engineering) in the field of EM&Ts
  • boost knowledge and technology transfers from academia and research centres to industry in a designerly way.

The consortium wants to achieve the main following outputs:

  • Higher teaching methods and training guidelines in the field of EM&Ts
  • Development of the training methodology and framework
  • Training workshops addressed to managers/companies for each EM&T
  • Entrepreneurship workshops addressed to start-up related to EM&Ts
  • Intellectual outputs transferability meetings within HEIs
  • Academic staff mobility and training on knowledge transfer methods
  • Cross-competence students’ mobility
  • Pilot sub-sectors (EM&T area) workshops
  • Effective and efficient exploitation activities.

An integrated and systematic execution of the activities to achieve the above outputs will enables partners to set up a common and advanced methods to teaching EM&Ts within HEIs, to create new professional competence and entrepreneurial skills in young students, and to develop new guidelines and approach to technology and knowledge transfers (from academia to industries).

Furthermore, the different actors involved into the project (advanced HEIs, both in technology and creative field, technology transfer centres, material labs, industry representatives, certifier) will booster the achievement of the project objectives.
